What is GYTY53 Heavy-Duty Fiber Direct Buried Cable

The GYTY53 type optical cable places the 250um optical fiber in a loose sleeve made of high modulus plastic, and the sleeve is filled with waterproof filler. The center of the core wire is a steel wire and a PE sheath. As a metal reinforcement, the sleeve and the filler are wound around the reinforcement to form a compact circular cable core. The filler fills the inside of the cable core to prevent water from entering, and the outer cover is a thin PE inner sheath. After the inner sheath covers the PSP in the longitudinal direction, the PE outer sheath is wrapped to form a cable.

Pros in EngineeringDouble sheath plus corrugated steel tape armor provide excellent tensile and crush resistance, ideal for harsh direct burial environments. Full-section water-blocking, good moisture resistance.Steel tape armor gives good crush resistance and some bullet resistance. Compact structure prevents tube shrinkage.Aluminum tape provides excellent moisture barrier, better than steel tape for moisture/corrosion resistance. Full-section water-blocking, lighter weight, good environmental stress crack resistance.Compact, small diameter, light weight, easy installation. Parallel steel wires offer moderate strength, relatively low cost.
Cons in EngineeringDouble sheath + steel armor results in larger outer diameter and heavier weight. Larger bending radius (static ≥12.5D). Higher pulling resistance in ducts.Steel tape has weaker corrosion resistance than aluminum tape. Single-layer armor makes long-term reliability in direct burial or wet environments slightly lower than GYTY53.Aluminum tape has lower crush resistance than steel tape, not suitable for direct burial or extremely high mechanical strength environments.Lower crush and tensile strength compared to stranded designs. Not suitable for direct burial. Greater difficulty in fiber excess length control for high core counts.
Cost (Relative)Medium to high. Double sheath and steel tape increase material cost. Suitable for core networks demanding high mechanical performance.Medium. Steel tape armor offers moderate cost – one of the most common outdoor armored cable types, good cost-performance ratio.Medium to low. Aluminum tape material cost is lower than steel tape, making overall cost relatively lower, suitable for large‑scale access layer deployment.Low. Simple structure gives significant cost advantage for low fiber counts. Ideal for cost‑sensitive access projects.
Maintenance DifficultyModerate. Heavier structure makes installation somewhat more difficult, but excellent mechanical protection reduces fault rate, resulting in manageable long‑term maintenance cost.Low to moderate. Classic design with mature installation/maintenance practices. Steel tape provides good protection and maintainability.Low. Aluminum tape is light and corrosion‑resistant, easier to install and maintain.Low. Simple, small diameter, easy to install and maintain.

GYTY53 Fiber optic cable Installation Guide

1. Pre-Installation Check: Inspect the cable reel and outer sheath for damage. Measure fiber attenuation using an OTDR and compare with factory test results.

2. Trench Preparation (for direct burial): Excavate trench to minimum depth of 800 mm for road crossings or 1.2 m for farmland. Trench bottom must be flat with a layer of fine sand or soft soil.

3. Cable Laying: Maintain pulling tension below 1500 N (short‑term) and 600 N (long‑term). Bending radius: ≥25× cable OD during pulling, ≥12.5× cable OD after installation. Use lubricant when pulling through ducts.

4. Backfilling: Place cable on the prepared trench bottom. Cover with a 100 mm layer of fine sand. Lay warning tape 200‑400 mm above the cable. Backfill carefully to avoid sharp stones.

5. Acceptance Testing: Perform OTDR test to ensure attenuation ≤0.40 dB/km at 1310 nm and ≤0.30 dB/km at 1550 nm. Verify fiber continuity and splice quality.
