What is Outdoor Optical Cable?

Outdoor optical cable (also called outdoor fiber optic cable) is a type of transmission cable specially designed for harsh external environments. Unlike indoor fiber cables, outdoor-rated cables are reinforced with additional protective layers such as steel tape armor, water- blocking materials, and UV-resistant HDPE jackets to withstand direct sunlight, temperature fluctuations, moisture, mechanical stress, and even rodent attack.

At YRTFIBER we manufacture a complete family of outdoor fiber cables ranging from 1 to 288 cores, with G.652D, G.657A, and multimode OM2/OM3/OM4 fiber options. Whether you need an aerial self-supporting ADSS cable,direct-buried armored GYTA53, or a figure-8 GYXTC8S for fast deployment, our factory is capable of producing the exact specification for your project.

Types of Outdoor Optical Cables We Offer

Below are the most commonly requested categories, each optimized for a specific installation method. Click any product name to view the full datasheet or contact our engineers for a custom quote.

ADSS Aerial Self-Supporting Cable

All-Dielectric Self-Supporting (ADSS) cable is the preferred choice for power utilities because it contains no metallic components. It uses aramid yarn as the strength member and is designed for long-span aerial installations up to 800 m per span.

  • All-dielectric construction — zero induction risk near high-voltage lines

  • Single or double PE/AT jacket options for different climate zones

  • Span options: 50 m, 100 m, 150 m, 200 m, 300 m, , 500m, 800m

  • Fiber count: 12 to 288 cores, G.652D / G.657A

  • Compliant with ITU-T and IEC standards

GYTA / GYTS Stranded Loose Tube Cable

GYTA (aluminum tape armor) and GYTS (steel tape armor) are the workhorses of duct and aerial installations. They use 2–144 PBT loose tubes with jelly-filled water-blocking compounds for reliable long-haul transmission.

  • GYTA: Corrugated aluminum tape — lightweight, duct & aerial use

  • GYTS: Corrugated steel tape — higher crush resistance, rodent protection

  • Loose tube with gel filling ensures radial and longitudinal water blocking

GYTA53 / GYFTY53 Direct-Buried Armored Cable

For direct burial without protective conduits, our 53-series double-jacketed cables provide double steel-tape armor + dual PE sheaths for maximum mechanical and environmental protection.

Figure-8 GYXTC8S / GYXTC-8Y Cable

Figure-8 cables integrate the messenger wire directly into the cable jacket, which cuts installation time by up to 50% compared with separate messenger installations.

OPGW / OPPC Power Composite Cable

Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) replaces the traditional ground wire on overhead transmission towers while simultaneously providing a data path for smart-grid SCADA and telecom applications.

Common Applications & Use Cases

Outdoor optical cables are the backbone of modern communication networks. Typical installation scenarios include:

  1. Telecom backbones — long-haul inter-city trunk lines using  G.652D single-mode fiber with 96–288 cores.

  2. FTTx access networks — GYTA/GYTS distribution cables  connecting central offices to roadside cabinets and building entries.

  3. Smart power grids — ADSS and OPGW cables deployed along  110 kV to 500 kV high-voltage transmission corridors.

  4. Campus & enterprise networks — multimode OM3/OM4 fiber  for high-bandwidth data centers and university inter-building connections.

  5. Railway & metro signaling — flame-retardant LSZH jacketed  cables for tunnels and mass transit systems.

  6. Oil, gas & mining — heavy-duty armored cables (MGTSV  series) engineered for hazardous environments.

  7. Military & secure facilities — all-dielectric, EMP-  immune fiber links with tactical-grade sheaths.
